At approximately 11:04 AM, our control room received an urgent report of a suspected trespasser at a property located on 1st Avenue in Linden. Our first responding officers arrived promptly at 11:07 AM and quickly secured the area.
Upon entering the premises, officers detained a male suspect who was discovered scavenging for metal pieces, copper wiring, and other valuable materials. Preliminary findings suggest the suspect intended to sell these items at a nearby scrapyard. During questioning, the suspect claimed he believed the property was unoccupied and uninhabited.
Further investigation revealed the suspect gained entry by jumping over the gate, crawling through a broken window, and accessing the roof via a damaged ceiling panel. Evidence indicates the suspect was attempting to strip remaining materials from the property, which had already been significantly looted.
The Linden SAPS was notified and is assisting with the case. The matter remains under investigation, and further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
